Gunther's Exercise Hiatus

Yes, it's true. Gunther man is on an exercise hiatus. We'll be taking a little break from bark park...

Excuse me? What is this I'm hearin' about no bark park?

We've been going to bark park everyday and I couldn't help but notice Gunther seems to have a harder time than usual catching his breath while running around with Stella and Mr. Wilson.  This afternoon we had an appointment with Dr. Stephens. We told him about Bandit and the great Pug advice Bandit's mom, Paula posted.  We also showed him a video of Gunther playing and the sounds he makes when he's breathing loudly after running around.

After watching the video and examining Gunther, Dr. Stephens agreed that there is something going on with his breathing. He got a chest x-ray this afternoon, which ruled out any problems with his lungs so that was good. However it didn't hide the 4 small rocks he ate earlier this morning (don't worry, he always poops them out).  Tuesday he'll go back to the vet to go under anesthesia so they can look at his throat and windpipe with a scope. At that point, Dr. Stephens should be able to see what is causing some of his breathing difficulty while he's exercising.

So, if everyone could keep Gunther in your thoughts and prayers that he stays safe while under anesthesia and that his upcoming tests show nothing serious.

We all have a very positive attitude. That is all of us except Gunther. He is extremely upset about missing out on bark park for the next few days...

Whaaaaa!

Hi Shannon! Isn't it amazing how much we learn from our circle of friends? Bandit's health problems have caused so many pug parents to take a closer look at their pugs and to question things thought to be normal.

I'm keeping Gunther in my prayers that he does okay during his procedure.

Maybe your mom could make you some chicken soup. It is really good for making feel goods happen fast. And take lots of long NAPS.

Gunther, I hope all is well with that scope thingy and they can find out what's causing your breathing problems and that it's nothing serious. You (and your mom) will be in my thoughts.... hopefully the dog park will be back in your future very soon!

You eat rocks too? They are most filling, right? And of course gives the poop detectives something to get excited about.

Good luck at the vet, little pal. I'll be thinking of you.

Oh Gunther, me poor fella! No bark park...how sad! Me Mom said to tell your Mom that after having pugs for the past 15 years that he might have an elongated palate which can be shortened with a simple surgery. Well, no surgery is simple for you short-nosed breeds, true enough. Hope your appointment goes well Tuesday. Me thoughts and prawers are with you.

McG

Poor Gunther! I am so sorry to hear about your breathing troubles and I will keep my paws double crossed that it is nothing serious. I bet you will be back up and running at the bark park in no time at all. (But make sure to try to look pitiful for a few days and get a few extra cookies outta the deal!)

We are so glad to be of some help to another puggy. Here is hoping and praying for whatever is affecting Gunther's breathing is on the minor end of the spectrum. Although when things are going wrong, to us Mom's, it is never minor at all. (((HUGS)))

Hi Gunther! We are glad your mom was alert and took you to the vet to ask about it. I have many friends at pug meetup that breathe heavily even while on the a/c. Mom thought she should print the details on Bandit's blog and have it handy. We really hope all goes well with you. Don't worry, your vet seems to be a good one! My former vet would just play "doctor" with me before I was diagnosed with addison's disease, and I almost died once!. Bad boy he was!
