Feelin' good Friday

Hip hip hooray!

Mom is feeling much better! We're convinced all our kisses and snuggling helped mom to pass her kidney stones. Still, mom went straight from bed, to the couch this morning so our job is not quite done.

We also got a great update from Landon's foster mom at Pugs 'N Pals, sounds like he's feeling much better! Thanks to everyone that donated to help with his surgery. You can still get some of those yummy smelling candles through the Yankee Candle fundraiser for Landon's care.

Update from 10/27

"Just got back from Dr. Berry ’s. When I got Landon last Thursday, that good leg was not functioning at all. I started physical therapy on it as well as using a towel for a sling and make him walk back and forth. About 2 days ago he started moving that leg more, though it doesn’t hold him. Dr. Berry said he has an old spinal injury in the T13-14 area. But he is encouraged that with the physical therapy it started to function some. Under normal circumstance Landon would have an MRI and back surgery, but due to the broken leg, Dr. Berry wants to wait. He wants me to continue the physical therapy and bring him back for another evaluation in 2 weeks. If things get worse we would have no choice but to go in for back surgery. But we are trying to see if it can wait till the broken leg heals and then do it. So we will continue doing what we are doing.

Please continue with your prayers and positive thoughts for our beautiful Landon! He was so good during his evaluation. Dr. Berry said “what a fabulous baby” J That is my boy!"

Update from 10/28

"Landon had a follow up appt. today with Dr. R for x-rays. I am happy to say everything looks great and still in place. He couldn’t put a plate on it to keep it in place, instead he wrapped muscle around it and hoped it would hold up for at least a week, and it did!!! He may hate being confined but it is working for his little leg. Doc is happy with how things look. Landon goes back next week for more x-rays, bandage change and stitch removal from his neutering. Every one thought he looked totally different than when he came in. They said “he looks happy”, well of course! He has care for around the clock and daily massages, I would be happy too. When the took him to the back, he looks back at me and starts crying as if to say “MOMMMMMY NO! Don’t let them take me!” He literally threw himself into my arms when they brought him back!! Think someone is getting too spoiled!"

Kidney Stones

We've been busy keeping our eye on mom. It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it. Mom and dad got up really really early this morning to go somewhere called the ER. She's had these things before called kidney stones, only it's not the kind you find in the yard and get in trouble for eating.

She was pretty sure she had another one, which made us think.... Is mom eating rocks too? Anyways, they left the house really early and were gone for few hours. Mom wasn't too talkative when they got home, in fact she went straight to bed. Dad explained that mom was given lot's of drugs to make her feel better. Turns out she was right about having a kidney stone, in fact the doctor told her she had 2 after getting something called a CT scan. Wow, sure makes us think twice about eating rocks out of the garden!

So now our job is to snuggle mom in bed and make sure she gets plenty of kisses. We're doing our best to not wrestle in bed, but sometimes we're overcome by the moment and can't help ourselves.

Landon's story.... Pug in need.

This is Stella and Gunther's mom filling in for them. The Monarch Butterflies are out in full force right now, so my cuties are outside pretending they are cunning hunters. Even with dozens of butterflies in the yard, Stella and Gunther have no chance of catching one...

I'm posting to help spread the word for Pugs 'N Pals of Southern California. They are trying to raise money for Landon's surgery. His sad (and all too often) story is below. Following Landon's story is information for the Yankee Candle fundraiser.

Thanks everyone!
Shannon

Landon was at the Lake Ellsinore shelter ready to be put down due to a broken leg when we got word of him. We rushed over to get him. He was in terrible pain and had been at the shelter without any medical treatment for at least 5 days that we know of. When we got him we knew this was bad. It appears he got hit by a car, the leg was in bad shape. He went into emergency surgery. A few days later we noticed that he wasn’t using his “good” leg, he just dragged himself. Back to the Vet and more x-rays, it appears that leg is not working properly or at all, it is hard to tell due to the huge cast on the other leg how much use he as of the “good leg”. Tomorrow, Tuesday Oct. 27th, we will be taking him to a neurologist to see what is going on. He may have a spinal injury, at which point he will need an MRI and back surgery. Problem is the leg needs to heal before further surgery can be done, but time may be a factor here.

So PLEASE pass around the Yankee Candle fundraiser to every one you know. We are also accepting donations for beautiful sweet Landon. Every vet that has treated him said he is the sweetest little guy, even in the pain he was in, he was giving kisses. Please help us help Landon. Send donations to

Fun at the Beach

This weekend, the weather was perfect for a run on the beach. Just a few minutes into our run, Gunther spotted a couple of visiting puglets. Rarely are there other pugs on the beach to play with! These two handsome gents, named Toby and Myles, were visiting with their humans from Texas.

At first, things didn't go over very well. Gunther teased everyone that fawn pugs were special. What?!

Look out Gunther! You're gonna get it!

Gunther quickly made up with the bunch (once he got it through his thick head that he was out numbered). Toby and Myles were great to play with. They even got Gunther out in the water, which is a big deal since he's really afraid of it!

Pumpkin Truck

Today, we went to the avocado farm that's up the road from our house with our favorite human friend, Chuck. He's very into photography and from what hear, he's pretty good at it. At least we seem to make him look really good. Anyways...

Stella was a bit worried the pumpkins made her butt look big.

Gunther spotted something he felt required further inspection.

It was a fun day despite the heat.

Oh no, she's got a video camera.

The boys, Gunther and Guapo sharing a moment on the front porch.

The Tongue

Anyone got a twisty tie we can borrow so we can roll up Gunther's tongue and hold it in place?...

Okay, we'll overlook this one. After a long day of shopping, who can blame a guy for being so tired.

Ready for Halloween

Gunther the cowardly lion and Stella the spider.

HALLOWEEN HERE WE COME!

Guapo said he wants to go as a plumber like mom and dad's friend Chris.
They're still working out the details of the costume. Something about plumber's crack?...

Carly spends the day!

We're so happy our human niece Carly came to spend the day with us. She loves it when mom and dad take her out for a drive in their old VW Bus. We kinda like it too in case ya couldn't tell.

Carly's favorite thing to do is spend time with us. Mom and dad joke it's the only reason she comes over. Well duh, isn't that why anybody comes over?

Mom LOVES flamingos. She keeps a couple at the gate to greet guests. Personally, we think they're a little on the tacky side. But eh, who are we to judge? One 'flew' away during the recent storm. Carly was nice enough to bring mom a new one. Gee, thanks Carly...

Carly just can't resist giving Gunther his favorite thing, you guessed it... the plastic water bottle. He can make that thing pop and crackle like no other! Despite how much money mom and dad spend on toys, Gunther will always love his plastic water bottles the best. Go figure.

There's only one thing Stella hate more than running low on food, and that's being ignored when she wants to play!

Uh oh, El Guapo senses trouble. He's a lover and worrier, not a fighter.

Ah, who are we kidding! Let's go inside for a Pug snuggle. Besides, once Gunther chews the cap off the water bottle mom takes it away. Carly can come inside for some lunch and we'll give her the Pug stare down until she gives us a bite.

Cleaning up after the Storm

We had quite the storm pass through Morro Bay. Almost 3" of rain poured down on us in 12 hours. And with the driving winds, nothing was safe from getting drenched, even some of our outdoor beds that mom and dad bring in every night and put on our front porch were soaked. Unfortunately, they thought it should be a family event to wash and dry everything out, so we got dragged to the laundry mat. How undignified for a puggie to have to ride around in a laundry cart. Despite our looks of disdain, we still got lot's of attention with pats and kisses.

During the storm, a scary moment happened when a large tree fell into the power lines across the street. Some live power lines were dangling so the fire department was called out immediately to take care of the situation.

Gunther oversaw the entire operation. I'm sure the firemen and police department felt much safer knowing should anything happen, Gunther was there to save the day....

Stella on the other hand, couldn't bring herself to look until all was back to normal.

Mom and dad have just about finished with the clean up. Dad is still outside raking up the last of the leaves and debris. Funny how a storm blows in and creates such damage then leaves as quickly as it comes. We're relaxing now with El Guapo. Now that we can go outside and poop and pee without being blown into the next county, we're quite content.

Rainy Day Blues

The wind is howling and the rain is coming down in buckets! There are even white caps out on the bay. The only thing for a pug to do is stay inside and snuggle under the covers. Stella seems to have the right idea...

And when she kicks the boys out of bed for being too rowdy, Gunther and Guapo snuggle up on the couch instead.
